Data on your device

Everything you create in Libellum (bookmarks, notes, collections, memorization progress, reading position and settings) is stored only locally in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes this data.

If you have device backup turned on, Android may back up this data to your Google account. You control this in the Android settings; the backup is held by Google, not by us. If you export your data to a file, you decide where it is stored.

Bible downloads and website

The app downloads Bible translations and the list of available Bibles from libellum.app. Some translations are downloaded directly from eBible.org. Each request transmits technically necessary connection data: IP address, time, requested file and the app or browser identifier. The same applies when you visit the website libellum.app.

We use this data only to deliver the files and to keep the service secure (legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). It is not analysed, not combined with other data and is normally deleted after 14 days.

The website and downloads are served through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) as a data processor so that they are fast and protected. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Downloads from eBible.org are subject to eBible.org's privacy policy.

To protect our servers, we monitor their network traffic with the software ntopng on our own server in Austria. Only connection data (IP address, port, data volume, time) is recorded, never content. Nothing is logged permanently; only security alerts are kept in continuously overwritten storage, currently for about one week (legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Website statistics

On the website libellum.app (not in the app) we count visits with Plausible Analytics, which we host ourselves on our server in Austria (analytics.pocket-systems.com). Plausible sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. To count visits, a hash is created from the IP address and browser identifier together with a daily rotating random value that is deleted after 24 hours. We only see aggregated figures (pages viewed, referrer, country, device type, browser), never individual people. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in anonymous audience measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can prevent the counting by blocking scripts from analytics.pocket-systems.com.

Notifications, read-aloud and sharing

The app schedules the verse of the day itself on your device; no data is sent to us for this. Read-aloud uses your device's text-to-speech engine, which is subject to its provider's terms, such as Google's. When you share, the app passes text or an image to the app you choose in the Android share menu.

Links to charities and other websites open in your browser, where the privacy policy of that website applies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object. Just write to hello@libellum.app. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde.

Changes

If the app changes, we will update this policy. The version published here always applies.
